Terms of service

Last updated: October 2026

Welcome. These terms cover memorialpaper.com and the templates you buy here. We've written them in plain language, because you have enough on your plate. If anything is unclear, email hello@memorialpaper.com and we'll explain.

Who we are

Memorial Paper is a small shop based in Ontario, Canada. We make editable funeral and memorial templates: programs, prayer cards, welcome signs and more.

What you're buying

Every product is a digital download. Depending on the product, it includes a Canva template link, a Microsoft Word file, a print sheet and a short how-to guide. Each listing says exactly what's included. Nothing is shipped.

How you receive it

As soon as your payment goes through, your files appear on the order page and we email you a link to them. Save a copy somewhere safe. If the email doesn't arrive, check your junk folder, then email us and we'll send it again.

Placing an order

You need to be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to buy from us. When you place an order you agree to these terms and to our refund policy.

Your licence: one family, personal use

When you buy a template you get a licence to use it, not ownership of the design. The licence is for your family's personal use.

You may:

  • edit the template for your loved one's service or memorial,
  • invite family and friends to help edit your copy in Canva,
  • print as many copies as you need, at home or at any print shop, and send the file to the shop for that purpose,
  • share the finished program, card or sign with the people who attend.

Please don't:

  • share, give away, sell or post the Canva template link or the files themselves,
  • sell printed items made from the template, or include them in a paid service,
  • use the templates for clients, as a funeral home, celebrant, print shop or designer would, without a business licence from us. If that's you, email us. We'd be glad to arrange one.
  • copy the designs, artwork or words to make your own templates.

Canva and Word are not ours

Our templates work in Canva and in Microsoft Word. Both are made by other companies, with their own accounts and terms. A free Canva account is enough: nothing in our designs needs Canva Pro. Word files are made for Microsoft Word on Windows or Mac; other programs may show them differently. We don't control Canva or Microsoft and can't promise how their apps will change, but if a change breaks a template, tell us and we'll do our best to put it right.

Sample photos and names

The names and photos in our listings and templates are placeholders. The names are made up and the photos are illustrations, not real people. Replace them with your own.

Your photos and words

You're responsible for what you add to a template: that you have permission to use the photos, for example from the photographer who took them, and any poem or lyrics you include. We never see what you type into Canva or Word, and we don't ask for any details about your loved one.

Prices, payment and taxes

Prices are shown in Canadian dollars in Canada and in US dollars everywhere else. Depending on where you live, sales tax, GST/HST or VAT may be added at checkout. Payment is handled by Shopify's secure checkout; we never see your card number. We may change prices at any time, but never for an order you've already placed.

Refunds

Our refund policy explains our promise: if a template doesn't open or edit as described, we fix it or refund you. Read it at memorialpaper.com/policies/refund-policy.

Printing

Our templates are set up to print well at home and at print shops, and the guides say how. Colours and sizes can still vary with printers, paper and screen settings, and a print shop's own mistakes are between you and the shop. If a print comes out wrong, email us first. Most problems are a setting we can help with.

Help

If you get stuck, email hello@memorialpaper.com with your question and a screenshot if you can. We reply within 24 hours, and often much sooner.

Our content

The designs, artwork, words, guides, sample images and the website itself belong to Memorial Paper. The licence above is the only permission you need, and the only one we give, to use them.

Privacy

Our privacy policy explains what we collect when you order (your name, email and billing details, handled by Shopify) and how we use it. We don't collect anything about your loved one.

What we're responsible for

We stand behind our templates, and the refund policy says how. Beyond that, and as far as the law allows, we're not responsible for costs we didn't cause, such as reprints at a print shop, and the most we owe you for any order is what you paid for it. Our templates are design tools. They're not legal, religious or funeral-planning advice.

Your rights

Nothing in these terms takes away rights that consumer law gives you where you live, including in Ontario and the rest of Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand. Where those laws give you more than these terms do, they come first.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows the current version. The terms that apply to your order are the ones posted when you placed it.

Governing law

These terms and your purchase are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute will be handled in the courts of Ontario, unless the consumer law where you live gives you the right to use your own courts.
